About E.S. Magill
E.S. Magill is an urban fantasy and paranormal thriller author dedicated to crafting high-stakes, character-driven tales of magic, mystery, and resilience. Best known as the author of the Magica series, E.S. Magill centers her narratives on flawed, formidable 40+ protagonists who navigate extraordinary abilities that serve as both a blessing and a burden. Through world-weary heroines like Maggie Towne, E.S. Magill explores the delicate balance between supernatural duty and personal responsibility to family, friends, and community.
Before focusing full-time on novel-length urban fantasy and paranormal thrillers, E.S. Magill built a versatile career across dark fiction and editorial publishing. As an editor, E.S. Magill has curated and co-edited notable dark fiction anthologies, including Haunted Mansion Project Year One, Deep Cuts, Wily Writers Presents Tales of Foreboding, and Space Horrors. Her original short fiction has haunted the pages of acclaimed collections such as California Screamin' and Blood Lite III. Furthermore, E.S. Magill served as the Reviews Editor for Dark Wisdom magazine, where she also penned the regular column “The Dark Librarian”.
Beyond speculative fiction, E.S. Magill is a passionate advocate for mental health. In her candid nonfiction self-help book, Reveal Your Wings: Preparing for Ketamine Assisted Therapy for Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, & More, E.S. Magill shares her personal mental health journey. Written with empathy and deep understanding, the book offers hope to readers navigating their own struggles with depression and anxiety, helping them foster meaningful connection and healing.
E.S. Magill holds both a B.A. and an M.A. in English, specializing in the postmodern gothic. After a fulfilling twenty-year career as a middle school English teacher, E.S. Magill retired to writing full-time. A lifelong Californian now transplanted to Phoenix, E.S. Magill resides with her husband Greg, who is aspiring to be race car driver (not a boring moment in their household). When E.S. Magill is not summoning magical chaos on the page, she can usually be found reading, swimming, or solo camping.
